Swansea City To Visit The Saints

Updated: May 25, 2021

We can confirm that we will be hosting Swansea City for a pre season friendly, in July. It is with great honour to welcome the Jack Army to the ICI Rifle Ground, where a team of young Swans will begin their pre season with us.

First team manager Rhys Llewellyn and his staff are very excited to welcome the Swans to the Saints, everyone involved will be apart of history at the club. This will be the first time that the club will host a professional club where all players are full time, the quality on show for the community will be great to see. With Coronavirus interrupting last years season, where it marked the celebration of 20 years as a club - we can now use this fixture to celebrate the 20 year anniversary with the community.

With a lot of work gone on at our ground, we cant wait to use this occasion to show Swansea and everyone watching, the progress we have made. We would like to personally thank Byron Anthony and his staff on accepting our friendly invitation, which will see his u18s side start their pre-season against the Saints.

Ex Swansea City forward Kerry Morgan, who is now involved with Merthyr Saints will be looking forward to be reunited with his boyhood club. Kerry has been involved with the Saints coaching staff for the past year, as he suffered an ACL Injury playing for Merthyr Town. Morgan who was sidelined has made a full recovery and is looking at a return to football this summer.

Former Bristol Rovers and Newport County defender Byron Anthony will bring his under-18s to the ICI in July. The 36-year-old, who played over 200 games in the Football League, has previously coached in the academy at Newport before going on to be academy manager at Rodney Parade. Byron has recently took charge of the U18s and Swansea and will be looking forward to his first full season in charge, we are delighted to be involved in his preparation plans for next season.

First team manager Rhys Llewellyn spoke about the occasion to us: "We are honoured to welcome Byron, his staff and players to the club in July, we have put maximum effort in on the surface and facilities to be able to host a fixture of this calibre. Myself and my players are excited for the occasion and will conduct ourselves in the best way possible, let's hope restrictions are lifted to allow the football community in Merthyr Tydfil to enjoy the game with us.

Lastly, A big thank you to Byron and Swansea City for the opportunity to host such a big fixture for us."

If we are allowed to invite spectators into the ground for the fixture, the cost of entry will be £3 unless you have purchased a seat in the stand for the season. Fingers crossed we can welcome everyone in July.

If you would like to buy a seat in our stand for the season and receive free entry for the season, with discounted food and drink. Please get in touch.
